MARKET GUIDEDemand vs value
Value tells you how large an item is on a chosen scale. Demand tells you how strongly people want it. Those ideas are related, but they are not the same thing.
Equal value does not mean equal demand
Imagine two pets with similar Basic Value. One appears constantly on wishlists and wanted listings, while the other is offered frequently but rarely requested. Their numeric values can be close while their real trading behavior feels very different.
The first pet may receive faster offers or attract overpays. The second can be harder to trade even if its published value has not changed yet.
Supply matters too
Demand becomes more useful when compared with supply. If many users want an item but very few active listings offer it, the market can feel tight. If the opposite is true, owners may need to be more flexible to complete a trade.
TradeRealm can use wanted-versus-offered activity, wishlists, collections and listings as context when enough data is available.
Watch recent movement
A static value can lag behind sudden interest. An update, event, new pet, social trend or game change can quickly alter what players search for and add to trades. Recent activity is therefore useful alongside a longer-term value reference.
That does not mean every short spike should instantly change the value. Strong systems need enough observations before treating a temporary burst as a real market move.
Why Realm confidence matters
If TradeRealm has only a handful of observations for an item, a demand conclusion should be less confident. Realm Value confidence exists to communicate that uncertainty. A strong-looking trend backed by little data should not be treated like a stable signal backed by sustained activity.
How to use demand in a trade
Start with value to understand the size of both sides. Then check whether the item you are receiving is wanted, easy to trade and reasonably available. If the Calculator says FAIR but one side contains much stronger demand, that side may still have better practical trading power.
Demand should not be used as an excuse to invent unlimited overpays. It is context, not a replacement for value. The best comparison uses both.
